WordPress
WordPress overview: the tracking stack, recommended plugins and where to configure the ecommerce data layer.
How metricsKit works on WordPress#
WordPress is the best-supported platform. The tracking stack:
- Traffic and behaviour → GA4 (gtag or via GTM)
- Search data → a verified GSC property
- Ecommerce / form / outbound / scroll / download events → your GTM container (data layer pushed by plugins)
- Revenue → your AdSense account connection
Note: Google connections authorized earlier through the WordPress Site Kit plugin still work; new users should authorize directly in metricsKit for a shorter path.
Recommended plugin stack#
| Purpose | Recommended plugin | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GTM container + data layer | Google Tag Manager for WordPress (GTM4WP) | Outputs the container snippets and pushes the WooCommerce data layer |
| Ecommerce | WooCommerce or EDD | EDD needs a self-pushed data layer or a third-party plugin (see the GTM guide) |
| Forms | WPForms or Contact Form 7 | Native form submit — GTM form submission trigger captures them directly |
Tip: Full plugin configuration (GTM4WP ecommerce switches, dataLayer event list, per-entity GTM setup) is in the WordPress GTM guide.
Quick start#
- Add the site in the console (domain only).
- Connect GA4 + GSC (recommended by default).
- Install GTM4WP and enter your GTM-XXXX container ID.
- Open Conversions → GTM setup wizard, download the import file and import it in GTM.
- Check the reports after 24-48 hours.
