AI traffic
Referral traffic from 15 AI hosts, quality comparison and the Bing Copilot module — host-level sources only.
Overview#
The AI traffic page (/dashboard/mkit/dimensions/ai) aggregates referral traffic from AI chat/assistant tools.
Data comes from GA4 sessionSource; the AI dimension uses inListFilter to match the host allowlist exactly, case-insensitively.
Source allowlist#
The allowlist of recognised sources contains 15 hosts:
- chat.openai.com
- chatgpt.com
- perplexity.ai
- claude.ai
- gemini.google.com
- copilot.microsoft.com
- you.com
- phind.com
- poe.com
- chat.mistral.ai
- deepseek.com
- chat.deepseek.com
- huggingface.co
- grok.com
- grok.x.ai
What you cannot see#
Only host-level sources are visible — that is, which AI site the visitor came from.
- You cannot see the questions users asked inside ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini
- You cannot see the specific shared URL
- You cannot see conversation content
Note: Finer attribution would have to come from the AI platforms themselves; metricsKit only holds the referrer host.
AI quality comparison#
Quality comparison uses the GA4 conversions metric (not keyEvents), placing AI sources side by side with the whole site.
Note: Platform metadata covers only 7 names — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, DeepSeek and Mistral; other hosts in the allowlist display the raw source string.
Bing Copilot module#
This module places Bing CopilotImpressions side by side with GA4 copilot.microsoft.com sessions.
Note: When the real API has no "Copilot cited pages" breakdown, top_pages is returned as null.
Plans#
Plan gating (locked on Free):
| Plan | Window | Landing pages | Country × platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | locked | — | — |
| Pro | 28 days | 5 | — |
| Business | 90 days | 10 | Included |
Note: Without a GA4 property the endpoint throws CONNECTION_REQUIRED (service=ga4).
