Dimension analysis · Social

Session quality across 13 social platforms, platform conversion-rate comparison and viral-event detection.

Overview#

The Social dimension page (/dashboard/mkit/dimensions/social) aggregates session quality and anomalous traffic from social platforms. Data comes from GA4 sessionSource.

Platform allowlist and metrics#

Platforms are matched against a GA4 sessionSource allowlist (not the raw referrer), 13 in total:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • X/Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • TikTok
  • Reddit
  • Pinterest
  • YouTube
  • Threads
  • Snapchat
  • Telegram
  • Discord
  • Twitch

Each platform shows the following metrics:

  • sessions
  • conversions
  • avg_time
  • bounce
  • conv_rate
  • conv_vs_avg

Quality comparison#

Quality comparison places each platform conversion rate side by side with the site-wide conversion rate to judge which platform sends the more "valuable" traffic.

ItemMeaning
Platform conversion rateShare of that platform sessions that converted
Site-wide conversion rateConversion rate across all site sessions

Viral-event detection#

When one day of social sessions reaches 5× the average of the previous 7 days (baseline of at least 3 days), it is recorded as a viral event:

single_day_social_sessions >= 5 * avg(previous_7_days_daily_social_sessions)
Note: With fewer than 3 days of baseline no decision is made, avoiding false positives from early data.

Plans and limits#

Plans: locked on Free; available on Pro/Business.

Note: The window is capped at 28 days for everyone — even with more site data, the Social dimension only looks at the last 28 days.
